No ducking for cover for this weekend's Saturday Night Live host Anne Hathaway – who opened her monologue on the NBC comedy show by chronicling her "busy summer."
"I broke up with my boyfriend," said the Rachel Getting Married star, "and two weeks later he was sent to prison for fraud."
As the crowd laughed and applauded, Hathaway, 25, went on to say slyly, "I mean, we've all been there, right ladies?"
Continuing with her confessional tone, Hathaway said the "experience made me feel pretty gullible, and I was ready to swear off dating, but then I found an amazing new guy."
He turns out to be a Nigerian prince who out of the blue sent her an e-mail and asked for her Social Security number.
"How sweet is that?" she said, adding that for their one-month anniversary she sent him a mixed CD – and $100,000.
"I feel pretty good about us," she declared.
Last month, of course, Hathaway's former boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, 30, pleaded guilty to some 14 criminal counts against him.
Last Thursday on ABC's Good Morning America, Hathaway said she's "trying to move on and have a sense of humor" in the wake of her breakup.
Anne Hathaway delivers a performance that's generating awards buzz in Rachel Getting Married, a character-driven drama directed by Jonathan Demme. Hathaway plays Kym, younger sister of Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt) of the film's title, a troubled woman who's just exiting rehab as the film begins. Kym's a wild child with an attitude sized to match her overabundance of problems.
As difficult a character as Kym was to portray, Hathaway didn't want to let her go at the end of the shoot. "I loved her," said Hathaway. "I felt more inspired, to be honest. I felt more willingness, after I played this character, to put myself out there and not be afraid of being judged or misunderstood or disliked. I found a lot of confidence in this role to be able to approach people and say, 'Look, as long as I'm myself, you can like me or dislike me but at least it's under honorable pretenses.' I felt really comfortable and I found that that level of honesty and self-representation has really deepened my relationship with people that I love in my life and has made my life better. Even if Kym's not with me anymore, her lessons are."

What probably won't be going into production any time soon, if ever, is a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. In a discussion with MTV, Anne Hathaway said: "I'm really, really proud of Fox's decision not to pursue a sequel. When I did Bride Wars with them I asked what happened, and they said we can't make a story, and it's not worth it to damage the original film." That being said, she has wished for a decent story for a sequel, and would continue the franchise if it was right. If Fox hasn't come up with something worthwhile yet, they probably won't (kudos to the studio for not forcing the issue) ... but maybe thoughts of more Andy will lead Hathaway to a similar role elsewhere.
Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway, who played the Agent 99 in the recent Get Smart, will now star in 20th century Fox's The Opposite of Love. The 25-year-old actress will play a commitment-phobic lawyer who undoes her well-balanced life by rejecting her eager-to-marry boyfriend.
The movie is based on Julie Buxbaum's bestseller with Kara Holden adapting the screenplay, reports China Daily. Hathaway's performance in Rachel Getting Married has already created a stir for probable awards though the movie is set to release on October 3.
The actress who made her debut with 1999 television series Get Real has come a long way with critically acclaimed films such as The Brokeback Mountain and The Devil Wear Prada.

Movie beauty Anne Hathaway can't wait to get animated -- when she voices a character in hit cartoon sitcom The Simpsons.
The Devil Wears Prada actress will grace Springfield in an early-2009 installment of the Fox show. She'll play a sweet, charitable girl whom Bart falls for.
"It's awesome, amazing," says Hathaway. "I play this awesome girl who is so ridiculously angelic that she inspires Bart to become a good Samaritan. I'm so excited about doing it because I'm such a huge fan of the show.
"In fact my friends and family are more excited about me being on The Simpsons than any movie I've ever done."
Jodie Foster is also set to enter The Simpsons' universe, with Ms. Foster voicing an adult Maggie in a flash-forward episode.
The Get Smart actress is sleeping on the sofa in her mother and father's New York home while she looks for somewhere to live after splitting from her boyfriend Raffaello Follieri.
A source said: "She is OK, but is staying at her parents' New York apartment right now."
The 25-year-old actress previously said she enjoys "a fabulous relationship" with her mum and dad.
The star split from Rafaello just days before the Italian businessman was charged with federal wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering.
The plush penthouse apartment the couple shared was later searched by the FBI as part of their investigation against Rafaello.
Rafaello has pleaded guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering charges.
Anne has reportedly also given police thousands of dollars worth of gifts, including jewellery, Rafaello gave her during their four-year relationship.
The actress recently revealed she "spent a week in shock" following the arrest of her former lover.
"As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a promotional tour for Get Smart," she said. "And then I spent a week in shock at a friend's house."
"And Steve Carell, my Get Smart co-star, stepped up for me during an interview when someone asked a question about it," she said.
"He said, 'At some point you're going to have to talk about this time in your life. You don't have to do it this week. I'll take care of anything that comes your way."'

BEVERLY HILLS, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/16/08 - - “I still slightly believe in mortality,” said Anne Hathaway on a warm sunny Monday afternoon in Beverly Hills. Hathaway, 25, spent part of the afternoon with the press discussing her latest film role playing psycho sister Kym in ‘Rachel Getting Married.’ What was on the minds of the press was her latest role with the FBI and wanting to know if mortality referred too relationships.
Hathaway has been in a public relations spin since June when ex-boyfriend Rafaello Follieri, 30, was arrested for scamming millions from unsuspecting investors in a real estate ponzi scheme. Hathaway has not been indicted along with Follieri. In fact, Hathaway appears to have been completely unaware of his actions and has been fully cooperative with the FBI.
Despite her bad choice in Follieri, Hathaway prides “herself in maintaining professionalism in her work”, she says. Which means business is business and those who want to dig into her personal life are off limits, it’s all about her latest film release.
In ‘Rachel Getting Married,’ her role as Kym embodies that deep commitment to her profession of acting. Hathaway digs deep into Kym who is full of self-pity because of her past while looking for a way to be normal. Kym is anything but normal and her actions bring about the worst in her and in her family.
“I had a year to prepare for this role,” said Hathaway. In preparation for her character, she attended AA meetings as part of her commitment to understand what emotions people go through who suffer from disorders. Hathaway was given the freedom to portray Kym in a manner that would give the character the intensity needed to carry the film. She and Director Jonathan Demme worked closely on this project. Jonathan’s “more free form spontaneous style really helped” with the acting, Hathaway said.
This is Hathaway’s most intimate heartfelt character and one in which she takes hold of and never let’s go. The film’s emotional roller coaster ride through Kym is Hathaway’s deepest reach into a character that is both moving and personal.
Anne Hathaway's reputation wasn't the only thing dinged by former boyfriend Raffaello Follieri's underhanded business dealings. Seems her jewelry box also took a hit. The Smoking Gun reports that the FBI recently "recovered" several "lavish" baubles bestowed upon the actress by her con artist ex, who is expected to spend at least five years in the pokey after pleading guilty this week to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. Among the items that Hathaway, who's not mentioned by name in court documents, purportedly handed over to the feds: two Rolex watches -- one gold, one silver; two gold rings, one with "clear stones," which may be FBI-speak for diamonds; a five-strand pearl necklace; a silver bracelet dotted with "clear stones"; and a silver chain with a cross and "blue and clear stones." Anne opens up in the October issue of W about her breakup with Follieri after four years of togetherness, explaining, "It's a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden. But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me." She then tearfully notes, "I've been shown such kindness. Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone."
